What are wisdom teeth?

Filling and root canal treatment procedures have a lower chance of success compared to other teeth. Extraction is a more beneficial treatment option.

Pericoronitis; Inflammation occurs as a result of the accumulation of food residues, plaque and microorganisms between the gum tissue covering some of the half-implanted wisdom teeth and the tooth. As a result, pain, swelling, bad odor, swollen lymph nodes, difficulty in swallowing and restricted mouth opening may occur. The main treatment for this condition, which recurs at various times, is wisdom tooth extraction.

Crowding of the teeth; Wisdom teeth that try to erupt in a horizontal position cause crowding in the front teeth as they put pressure on other teeth. In such cases, wisdom teeth may need to be extracted.

Problems in the neighboring tooth; Wisdom teeth that are half impacted or erupting horizontally can cause caries formation in the neighboring tooth or damage the roots of the neighboring tooth. Wisdom teeth should be extracted to prevent damage to healthy molars.

Pain; Half impacted or impacted wisdom teeth can put pressure on other teeth as they try to erupt. And it can cause a feeling of tightness and pain in all teeth.

Cyst formation in the jaw; The wisdom tooth and the surrounding epithelium may develop a cyst. This cyst can reach large sizes. Cysts that reach large sizes can cause jaw fractures. In this case, wisdom teeth and the surrounding epithelial tissue should be removed and cleaned.

Does wisdom tooth surgery cause pain?

The preoperative area is anesthetized with local anesthesia and no pain or ache is felt during the procedure. The pressure and sounds that occur during tooth removal may disturb the person. After the operation, you can complete the healing process without any problems by using the medications recommended by your doctor.

Are wisdom teeth extractions difficult?

A normal positioned wisdom tooth is like any other molar. Wisdom teeth that are impacted, stuck in a different position or have different root anatomy should be extracted under surgical operation. Jaw films should be carefully evaluated before extraction.
